Phi Phi Islands: A beach Holiday to Thailand

Phi Phi Islands: A beach Holiday to Thailand

I’ve never been on a beach holiday. So, when my friends decided to go to Thailand to sit on a beach near a pool and have a few cocktails…

What the heck? Let’s give it a go!

I arrived at Krabi airport in Thailand and took a boat to the Phi Phi Islands.

The Phi Phi Islands consist of several islands. We stayed in a lovely little resort on Ko Phi Phi Don, the largest and only populated island. The other islands are Ko Phi Phi Leh (where they filmed ‘The Beach’), Ko Phai (Bambook Island), Ko Yung, Bida Nok, and Bida Nai.

We spent the first day and most of the week lying around on the beach.

Ko Phi Phi Leh

The only time we left the beach was on a boat trip to Ko Phi Phi Leh. We spent time swimming in the bright blue ocean before visiting Maya Bay, where they filmed ‘The Beach’. Many believe that the landscaping done to make the beach more picturesque ruined the natural landscape forever. However, the bay is still beautiful. As someone who grew up on the Great Ocean Road, I am hard to impress, but the bright blue waters and soft sand beaches were simply delightful.

We also spent some time in the main town (Tonsai Bay) shopping and experiencing our first bucket.

The rest of the time was spent snorkelling near the hotel, swimming, lying on the beach with a book, eating delicious Thai food and enjoying cocktails. It was what I needed, although I could not do it every holiday.

After four days on Phi Phi, I travelled back to Australia via Nai Yang Beach, one of the smaller beaches on the island of Phuket. I spent a night enjoying the local food, a wonderful foot massage, walking along the beach, and the nightlife.
